Ziibiing wins Toronto Urban Design Award of Excellence
We are honoured to announce that Ziibiing has won a 2025 TUDA Award of Excellence in the Small Open Space category from the City of Toronto’s Urban Design & City Planning divisions. Receiving this award from the City is especially meaningful as, while it sits on a University campus, we have seen and heard that so many members of the greater Toronto community use and enjoy the space in so many ways.
We want to express our pride in and thanks for the team, community, and elders that gave so much of themselves to this project, imbuing it with meaning and knowledge that in turn is communicated back to visitors through design. It was gratifying to see the jury acknowledge this element, noting that as a whole and through its smaller detailed components, Ziibiing imparts lessons of reconciliation and Indigenous knowledge on each subsequent visit. This was the vision imparted to us by the client, Office of Indigenous Initiatives at the University of Toronto, so we are thrilled to see it recognized and celebrated now that the project is realised and in use.
Join our upcoming tour of the site with the Toronto Society of Architects, along the adjacent Landscape of Landmark Quality project with KPMB Architects/Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates Inc.
