Indigenous Design Studio’s work on the UHN Indigenous Wellness Centre featured in the Globe and Mail

Danny Roy and Ryan Gorrie spoke to The Globe and Mail about the new Indigenous Wellness Centre at University Health Network's Toronto Western Hospital. Working with C& Partners Architects Inc. and PCL Construction, the team created a space that embodies Indigenous design practices, material choices, and traditions, while adhering to the strict guidelines required of a medical facility.

“Understanding some of the complexities and historical traumas that Indigenous peoples have faced entering hospitals or healthcare settings, we wanted to flip that by creating a welcoming space for those accessing healthcare.
— Danny Roy

The new centre is open and operating at Toronto Western Hospital, already providing this holistic and expanded approach to care for the hospital's Indigenous patients and community.
