| While our staff shares strong commitment to urban design, they have varied backgrounds in planning, architecture and landscape architecture. This collaborative thinking extends to our work that is often jointly undertaken with transportation, civil and environmental engineers. Calvin Brook is a registered planner and architect, and is a Principal of Brook McIlroy Urban Design & Planning, and Pace Architects. Mr. Brook holds a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Toronto . In addition to professional practice he has taught at Harvard University , University of Toronto , Carleton University and the University of Waterloo where he held an appointment as Associate Professor of Urban Design. Prior to the creation of Brook McIlroy Inc. he was Principal of Cochrane Brook Planning and Urban Design from 1997 to 2000 and Project Director of Brisbin Brook Beynon Architects since 1987, where in addition to architectural practice he founded and led the Urban Design and Planning Division. From 1985 to 1987 he was an urban designer for Sasaki Associates in Boston , Massachusetts where he worked on a number of large-scale master planning projects. With twenty-five years of professional practice Mr. Brook has extensive experience leading land use, master planning and urban design strategies for universities, research and medical institutions, towns, cities, and a variety of private sector clients. He has been the principal designer for over twenty-five university commissioned projects in Canada and the U.S. including partner-in-charge for the preparation of eleven campus plans. Mr. Brook speaks regularly on topics of university and research facility planning and design and is a member of the Society of College and University Planners. Anne McIlroy is a Principal of Brook McIlroy Inc./Pace Architects. Ms. McIlroy has twenty years of experience as an urban designer and project manager for numerous master plans and urban design projects in Canada and the United States , with particular expertise in public consultation and the development of design standards and guidelines for a variety of community, waterfront, university and other institutional projects. Anne is the past Chair of the Urban Design Working Group, a committee of the Ontario Provincial Planning Institute of urban design practitioners. She is a member of Waterfront Toronto's Revitalization Design Review Panel and the Chair of the City of Mississauga Urban Design Review Panel . Through her work at BMI, Ms. Bowen has prepared a number of Master and Campus Plans, Urban Design Guidelines, and Revitalization and Streetscape Studies. Recent projects for BMI include the preparation of the City of Toronto Avenues Studies for St. Clair Avenue West and Avenue Road, the Saint Mary's University Master Plan, and the University of Saskatchewan Land Use Decision Framework. Her role in these projects has included project management, schematic design, design development, 3D modeling, public consultation and collaboration with clients in a consensus-based approach to design solutions. Ms. Hawes holds a Bachelor of Environmental Studies and a Master degree in architecture from the University of Waterloo . Ms. Hawes has over 8 years experience in a wide range of architectural and planning environments in Canada , the United Kingdom , Southern Africa and the USA working on such projects as urban design guidelines for emerging communities and architectural documents for theatres, condominiums, retail centres, and office/commercial spaces. Prior to joining Brook McIlroy / Pace Architects she worked with the Region of Waterloo on the implementation of their Regional Growth Management Strategy. Her involvement spanned from the formulation of the strategy to the implementation of the urban design initiatives. As the administrative project coordinator for the strategy's implementation Jessica aided in the management of projects relating to sustainable reurbanization, Urban Design, Greenspace Preservation, Historical Preservation, Greenfield Staging and Fixed Urban Growth Boundaries. Rajko Jakovic holds a Bachelor of Environmental Studies and a professional degree in architecture from the University of Waterloo . Rajko has a wide range of experience in design, construction documentation and contract administration gathered from a variety of building types including commercial, cultural, recreational, institutional and residential uses. He has over 11 years of experience working in Canada and abroad in the US and Montenegro. Jana is a registered Landscape Architect in both Canada and the US, holding a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Guelph. Jana has diverse experiences, particularly in the area of urban public realm development, including conceptual design, master planning, coordination of submission and construction drawings and construction administration. Involvement from the very conception of a project to the actual finished product has provided Jana with creative and practical skills in project development. Most recently, Jana has completed the open space master plan and landscape design guidelines for St. Mary's University Campus in Halifax , Nova Scotia. Prior to joining BMI/Pace she worked with the MBTW Group as Senior Project Manager on a broad range of urban, suburban and regional projects for both private and public sector clients, locally and internationally. Jana worked on a wide variety of projects including public parks and streetscapes, high density residential and waterfront redevelopment. Ms. Joyce has more than 10 years of experience in a wide range of architectural and planning environments in Canada, the United States and Kazakstan working on award-winning projects such as beautification, district streetscape and riverfront Master Plans. Before joining BMI/Pace Tsugumi studied in the Netherlands. She worked on a wide range of design projects and urban research project. She has experience in schematic design, design development, presentation and overseas liaison. She brings to BMI/Pace a diverse design background which builds on her international experience. Graham Kelly is a graduate of George Brown College and holds an advanced diploma with honors in Architectural Technology. Prior to his role as an architectural technologist with BMI/Pace, Mr. Kelly had been involved in projects with World House and The Institute without Boundaries as site designer for the Global Development Village held at Parc Downsview Park . He had also participated in the Costa Rica World House Charrette which focused on housing solutions for the rural province of Guanacaste. Mr. Kelly is currently involved in the St. Clair Avenue West Transit Improvement project at BMI/Pace. Matt Reid graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Community Design, Honours in Urban Design and is currently enrolled in the Master of Arts (Planning) program at the University of Waterloo . Mr. Reid's graduate thesis focuses on the development of practical guidelines for creating sense of place. Through internships, and as an Urban Designer at BMI/Pace, Mr. Reid has been involved in a number of urban design projects including the York University Secondary Plan, the Parc Downsview Park Master Plan, and the Kingston Road Avenue Study. Mr. Reid's involvement in these projects includes preparing proposals, summarizing existing planning policies, preparing graphic materials, and researching project specific information. Zhongwei Shi holds a Bachelor Degree of Architecture from Tianjin University and a Master Degree of Urban Planning from McGill University . With more than 15 years experience in a wide range of projects such as community plans, campus plan, streetscapes, civic centers, hotels, residences and urban design guidelines in Canada, United States and China, He has developed excellent skills in schematic design, design development, 3D-modeling, and hand illustrations. Prior to joining BMI/Pace Mr. Shi worked with Walker Nott Dragicevic Associated Limited as an urban designer on a broad range of urban, suburban and regional projects for both private and public sector clients. Ms. Teasdale's recent urban design projects include the North Oakville East Secondary Plan, the Village of Rosseau Visioning Exercise and Design Study, and the Halton Hills Land Use Study. Ms. Teasdale's role in these projects has included project management, design development, the preparation of urban design guidelines and principles, desktop publishing, public consultation and collaboration with clients. Ms. Teasdale was also involved in the Region of Niagara 's Smart Growth Model Urban Design Guidelines project. Her role was to convert the written report into a web-based document with active links and multiple navigational tools. |
